Joseph Haydn

Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) was an Austrian composer called the father of the symphony and of the string quartet: he wrote 104 symphonies and 68 quartets and fixed the forms both would keep for a century. For nearly thirty years he served the Esterházy princes, then became famous across Europe in old age. The recording here was made for Musopen and released into the public domain.
